Wow. This was no small one shot crossover. NBC's Homicide: Life On The Street and Law And Order did one crossover and the next thing you know they were crossing over all the time.

    I won't get into the details of the stories because they crossed over quite a number of times and the plots could get pretty involved. Basically though the situation would go like this. Law And Order would start the story since they were on first during the week. The case would take a turn that would require Law And Order's New York cops and lawyers to contact the Baltimore cops of Homicide for an assist. Then the case would fall further into the Baltimore cops area requiring the Law And Order folks to head over to Homicide when it aired on Friday to wrap things up. Both shows were good solid story telling vehicles and the crossovers were always very entertaining.

    In point of fact, when Homicide: Life On The Street was cancelled, Richard Belzer's Detective John Munch actually migrated over to the Law And Order spin off Law And Order: Special Victims Unit. Talk about weird: a spin off of a show where no characters from the first show end up on the new one BUT where one of the lead characters did come from another show... that the new show wasn't spun off from. Follow that?

    Well after the Law And Order/Homicide crossovers, Detective Lenny Briscoe from Law And Order and who was involved in the crossovers went on to appear in the Law And Order spin off Law And Order: Trial By Jury, thus making his appearances on Homicide ipso facto crossovers with that show as well.
