Diff'rent Strokes and Hello, Larry
Diff'rent Strokes (1978-1986) Hello, Larry (1979-1980) Type: Crossover Group 1
To get right to the point, McLean Stevenson should never have left MASH. He was a funny guy who deserved success and never really found it again once he left that show. Hello, Larry was one of his attempts at another hit. Hello, Larry featured McLean Stevenson in the role of Larry, a single father and radio personality. It was also very flatly sitcommy in the bad sense of that word... which I actually just made up. Anyhoo, it turns out Larry was old army buddies with Mr. Drummond. Not only that, Mr. Drummond bought the radio station Larry worked for. Establishing these ties between Larry's and Mr. Drummond lead to various crossover stunts in an attempt to get Diff'rent Stroke viewers to give Larry a shot, Hello, Larry being scheduled immediately after Diff'rent Strokes. I can't really say much about what if any crossovers happened with Diff'rent Strokes characters appearing on Hello, Larry. I, like most of America, did not watch the show. But I did watch Diff'rent Strokes and from that I do know there was at least one major plot with the cast of Hello, Larry appearing on Diff'rent Strokes. To demonstrate the level of interest Hello, Larry sparked in my mind, I must admit I could not tell you the plot of ANY of these crossover events to save my life. Sorry. But they did crossover a number of times. I'll update this if I ever get a chance to find more info.
