AFTERMASH and M*A*S*H

M*A*S*H (1972-1983)
AFTERMASH (1983-1984)
Type: Spin Off
Group 2

Following the end of the huge hit series M*A*S*H, an attempt was made to keep the show alive in a new format. The idea was to have several characters from the original show all working together at the same Veterans Hospital after the Korean War. Unfortunately the only characters who continued on in the spin off were three of the supporting characters from M*A*S*H: Sherman Potter, Max Klinger and Father Francis Mulcahy. While good characters, none of them was really worthy of carrying a show. Without Hawkeye or B.J. Hunnicut or Hotlips or... well without a character with a little "pop" the show fell a little flat. Klinger was good on M*A*S*H but his main gimmick there was his crazy stunts and wearing dresses all in the name of getting out of the army. Stripped of that...zzzzzzzzz. Same thing with Potter. As a playmate with Hawkeye and company, very funny. Alone...zzzzzzzzzzzzz. And Father Mulcahy??? God forgive me but forget zzzzzzzzzz. We're talking coma. Anyway, after two seasons, it quietly disappeared.
